Send to KindleHow many Circles do you have on Google Plus? You will need circles for a multitude of things and you will need at least 10 (including the ones that Google starts you off with).
- A circle for the noisy people
- A circle for the people in your industry that you love and admire
- A circle for the potential clients
- A circle for G+ info (ie this page)
- A circle for fun
- A circle for networking groups
- A circle for Fb, Twitter, Linkedin, EA friends
- 30 day G+ challenge Accountability Circle
A circle for the noisy people is exactly that! You may want to listen to popular people and see their conversations but they can just fill up your stream. So Circle them in one place. You know where they are and you can scan the conversations without them sapping your energy.
A circle for industry people is essential. Whether your industry is crafting or accounting you need to keep abreast of the news and what’s important to your readers and potential clients.
A circle for potential clients. It’s no secret I am also the communications director of a same day courier company. Business-wise my biggest expenditures are fuel and staff. If you are looking to start a conversation with me, put me in a client circle and see what I am talking about and what I am sharing. Think about who your potential clients are, and circle them.
As well as an eBook and emails, these pages are on the 30 day challenge site and my own website. Add them to a G+ circle so you can refresh your memory as you go along.
A circle for fun – in this circle you add those people that share funny video, lol cat gifs and the odd ribald joke. You never know when you may need a smile.
Belong to networking groups? Excellent, shove all those peeps into a circle. You’ll see further on in the G+ challenge why this is important.
People you only know from a certain location? Then add them to their respective circle – it prompts your memory as to where you know someone from. Met someone at a seminar or event? Tailor a circle to them.
[box type="note"]30 day G+ challenge Accountability Circle – yep, you have bought the book, subscribed to the emails and now we’re gonna check up on you (in a non-scary, non-stalker kinda way…). Here’s your incentive. Update the circle with your progress and if you have updated us for 30 consecutive days you win a space at an exclusive hangout with me and some other fab marketing peeps. You get to pick our brains on your chosen topic – how cool is that? And what an incentive![/box]
Bonus G+ circle tip:
I have a circle just for me. It’s like a personal bookmarking circle that only I can see. It’s where I add posts that I want to look over and study in more depth. It’s where I add videos and photos of things that I know I’ll use often. If you own private bookmarking circle appeals to you, then create one of those too.
How do you arrange your Circles? Share with us your tips in the comments.
This post is an extract from the upcoming 30 day Google Plus Challenge. Each day you’ll receive an email with tips and a task to boost your position on Google Plus. If you buy the ebook or Kindle version you’ll get more detailed information on how to set to your profiles and how to use them.

Well, I can’t say that I’m an active user of Google+, I’m just reading about all its benefits and opportunities, making somehow its research)
As a community it’s a lot less noisy than Twitter or Facebook and the conversations are different – you get to meet new people, so give it a go
Thx 4 these circles. Question, for a person to be in ur google circle doesn’t the person need a google or gmail account as a prerequisite? Thx
When I joined I didn’t have a Gmail account and I have found that it’s not essential to have one.
Hello Sarah,
I followed up on this and yesterday morning, I logged into Google+ TXTNLRN page and searched for Innovativeedu I found the person however, the Add circles was greyed I could not select it.
Then I joined the the site using the Google friend connect.
Today, when I searched for Innovativeedu, the name comes up in the search and all posts are displayed.
I tried few other names dadnab, Victor Khosla and all worked !!
G+ pages work a little differently to Circles in general, but if Google Friend Connect made the difference then that’s cool for you
I agree !!
Thanks
The few times I’ve tried Google Plus it brought some interest, but honestly I’m burned out on social media. It’s so time consuming. I’ll try to implement your tips though.
