Back in the 90′s one of my favourite pinball machines was The Creature from the Black Lagoon. The whole game was based on the fab 50s b-movie and had the most awesome of soundtracks. When you hit the the cafe switch with your ball you triggered a burst of Eddie Cochran singing There ain’t no cure for the summertime blues. I hit that switch often and sang along with Eddie, but as a teenager I never truly understood what the summer time blues actually was.
When your a child or a teen, summertime is a great time to kick back and enjoy things like your pool, picnics, going to the beach, and slipping away for a holiday. When you get a job or start your own business you suddenly find that your customers are doing this, which can create a slowdown in business during the summer months.
Maybe you have already experienced this in the past, and are developing the attitude of “I’ll just wait until September and then business will pick up again.” Sound familiar?
Well Eddie was wrong. There is a cure for the “summertime business blues!” There are lots of things you can do to keep your business alive and growing during these months.
Here are some ways to keep your business alive over the summer.
- Pick a new skill or business topic to learn about
Create a new product that you can offer either now or when September finally arrives
Get your business organised – summer is a great time to clean out your work area and get things filed where you will be able to easily find them. It will help you be more productive in the busier months.
Re-evaluate what is working in your business and what isn’t.
Decide on some changes you can make to increase the bottom line – profits.
While you are busy working in your business, it’s hard to take time to sit back and look at how everything is working. Summer is the perfect time for that!
- Hold a summer sale
- Get your affiliates involved by holding contests
- Concentrate on adding new subscribers to your email list
There are lots of ways to keep growing your business, so don’t just let summer come and go without taking steps to increase business.
Your attitude can go a long way in what your business will look like this summer. If you have already decided that this year won’t be any different, then it probably will be. Take some time and come up with a plan of what you will do this year to make this the best summer your business has ever seen.
And let’s not forget that summer is a great time for you to be refreshed. Do take some time off to do some fun things, and spend time with your family and friends. It will give you a fresh perspective when you come back and get down to business!
